How it Works

Carole Radziwill (THE WIDOW’S GUIDE TO SEX AND DATING) visits a book group in Princeton, NJ, January 2015

The hardest part will be choosing an author, because there are so many phenomenal writers on our list! Feel free to wander around our site as you make the tough choices…Katha Pollitt’s passionate polemic on abortion rights or preppy everything with Lisa Birnbach? Orphan Train riders with Christina Baker Kline or Brigham Young’s rebellious 19th wife with David Ebershoff? Memoirs about John F. Kennedy Jr. from Carole Radziwill or Christina Haag? How about two of the most popular novels in recent memory — Chris Pavone’s THE ACCIDENT or Joshua Ferris’s TO RISE AGAIN AT A DECENT HOUR — with their authors. Maybe you feel like discussing Jerome /Robbins, Norman Rockwell, David Foster Wallace, Philip Roth or Wendy Wasserstein with their biographers! It’s going to be tough to make up your mind, but when you have, simply go to his or her BOOKTHEWRITER author page and click on the booking link — it will take you right to our booking form where you can also fill in your proposed dates for the invitation and the name of the book you’d like to read. (And feel free to select a title that’s not on our site. We list only three titles per author, but most are happy to discuss the full range of their work).

If you’re not sure whom you’d like to invite, browse our authors or titles by genre, or scroll down the home page to check out the newest books by our great writers. Want a recommendation? Contact BOOKTHEWRITER and let us help!

When we receive the booking form, BOOKTHEWRITER will work with you both to find a date that works for everyone. Once the date has been confirmed, you’ll be invoiced for BOOKTHEWRITER’s fee. When the day or evening arrives, the author will join your group to talk about the book, answer questions, and share the story behind the story.
