I Married you for Happiness tells the story of a marriage over a single night as Nina, the newly bereaved wife sits by the bedside of her husband, Philip, who has unexpectedly passed away.  Too shocked to grieve, she lets herself remember the defining moments of their long marriage, beginning with their first meeting in Paris.  Nina is a painter, Philip is a mathematician.  The novel can be read as an elegy to a marriage and as a meditation on the theory of probability and how chance can affect life and the possibility of an afterlife.
